ERRIS IN CONAUGHT CUP ACTION

Category: UncategorizedThomas @ 12:44 am

At a windy, wet and cold Kilmore Community ground on Sunday 5th, Iorras rediscovered their mojo when they dumped Ballina Town out of the Connaught Cup round two. Erris United where certainly the in-form side all through this cup encounter and eight minutes in Kyle O’Reilly had Iorras in front from a Gareth O’Malley corner and nine minutes later Jason O’Donnell scored with nice finish. It was 3-0 after 27 minutes, thanks to an OG. Brendan Nallen made it 4-0 on 35 minutes. But four minutes later Stephen Moyles pulled one back for Ballina just before the break (4-1). At the start of the second half Iorras brought on Anthony Mills for the injured Eamon Carey with Erris playing against a strong wind then Jason O’Donnell scored his second of the afternoon to make it 5-1 with nice headed effort at the fare post after great work from Tom Ivan and Kyle O’Reilly. Then Brendan Lavelle (half-time sub) made it 5-2 for Ballina. Then on 64 minutes Iorras made their second substitution with Jason Boylan coming on for Gareth O’Malley and young Nathan Reilly then made it 6-2 and his first senior goal and a nice finish it was. Keith Duffy made it 6-3 on 77 minutes for Ballina with Iorras making a change on 80 minutes with Ivan Barrett replacing Kyle O’Reilly. Brendan Lavelle scored his second of the game for Ballina on 83 minutes to make it 6-4. Final score Erris Utd 6 Ballina Town 4. Best of luck in the next round.
Iorras Aontaithe wishes to thank the Kilmore Sports-field Community Ground committee for facilitating this fixture.
(At one point in the second half Referee Damian McGrath stopped play for a time when a very heavy hale shower descended)
