SWEENEY ON FIRE WITH HIS HAT-TRICK

Iorras Aontaithe is through to the open round of the FAI Junior cup with a very comprehensive away win against Ballyheane in round four on a score line: Ballyheane 2 Erris 5 on Sunday 9th November.

Mickie Sweeney was the star of the show scoring a hat-trick. Erris were in control right through this encounter with Sweeney putting Iorras in front on 15 minutes with a pile driver from all of 18 yards. Iorras went two in front with a Brendan Nallen free on 35 minutes. It stayed like that until the break.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Mickie Sweeney scored his second to make it 3-nil. Ballyheane then scored their opener and directly afterword’s Sweeney scored his third. Then on 70 minutes Mickey Togher scored the fifth goal for Iorras with a neat finish. Ballyheane scored their second five minutes from time.
Erris United are in the open round of this competition for the first time since 2009. The last time these two sides met, Erris were put to the sword in the Super League back in August with a ten goal hammering – revenge is certainly sweet.
Afterwards Manager Martin McIntyre was very happy with his side’s performance and some excellent individual displays.
